Be in a Band and perform in a live concert!
URock Summer Camp is designed for musicians in middle and high schools who are interested in being in a band.
What kind of music do we play?
Each band chooses their own style of music or combination of music. All styles are welcome from heavy metal to country and everything in between.
How much experience do I need?
The instrumentalists should have approximately one year of experience on your instrument. Vocalists do not need any formal training. Non-performing students are welcome as well if you are looking for experience and and/or the technical side of music.
What is camp like?
You will meet together Friday evening to get to know what is expected and to begin dividing into bands. Then you will work together all day Saturday and Sunday afternoon. During that time you will learn about the business of music, techniques, and more in a large group and work with your bands in small groups. By the second weekend the bands will all be working to polish the songs for the concert. There is some leeway in the scheduling if you have conflicts with some of the camp times.
How about the staff?
The staff is led by Greg Langlois, guitar instructor at St. Francis Music Center. Greg has experience performing in all types of bands. All of the faculty are highly skilled and having performing experience.
What kind of musicians participate?
We need musicians who play guitar, bass guitar, and drums and vocalists. We also welcome keyboard players and any other instrumentalists that have a desire to play in a band!
When do we perform?
All of the bands will perform at the Peace Concert – an outdoor concert on the grounds of the Franciscan Sisters – which will be held on July 30 at 6 p.m.
How much does it cost and how do I register?
The cost for UROCK is $100 – BUT if you cannot afford it and want to come – come anyway! We want everyone to participate that wants to and if you can’t afford it – we understand. Look on the back for sign up information.
